East
led the diamond eight won in dummy and declarer
played a small spade, West following smoothly with
the five.
If
trumps break 3-2 then there are only two tricks to
lose, if they break 4-1 then if East has a singleton
honour then it is right to play the ace, if East has
a small card it is right to play the ten.
Since there are three honours missing and only two
small cards the ace is the percentage play.
Those
