Another
deal from the Tollemache Qualifier.
You
are defending against three notrump. You will
have a series of decisions, make your choice on each
one and scroll down to see the result and next
decision.
Firstly
what do you lead?
A
diamond is unlikely to be right, but any of
the other suits could work. It would be
nice to see dummy, so lead the heart ace
asking for an attitude signal from partner.
Dummy comes down and you see
Partner
plays the three and declarer the two, what
now?
That
diamond suit looks threatening, declarer may
well have nine quick tricks when he gets in.
Perhaps
partner has good enough spades so try the
spade ace.
That
produces the six from partner and the three
from declarer, you to play.
The
five of spades is missing, maybe partner
could not afford a higher spade, so continue
with a low spade.
Success!
Partner wins the jack, cashes the queen and
leads a heart back to your king, you take
the spade ten and the contract is two off.
