This deal from the
Preston Teams on Sunday 10th January, features an intricate bidding
sequence by Andrew Woodcock (North) and Catherine
Draper (South) of Lancashire which explored three different games
before finally arriving at the right contract.
After North's opening one heart and East's double South responded one Spade and West competed with two clubs. Now North passed with a minimum and South bid her second suit which North raised. South now did well to make a try with three hearts to show her partial heart support, North suggested three notrump which South rightly rejected, North again tried for the ten trick game, but South again judged well to bid five diamonds. This is a good contract at teams, basically needing West to have the heart queen and suits to split reasonably. Four hearts is beaten by a spade force to set up two trump winners for West and three notrump has five top losers. This is an eleven trick game wih a combined 22 high card points, showing the power of a fit in two suits. |
