This is a deal from the Sligo Congress in 2016.  You reach six notrump after a quick auction, how do you play on the lead of the six of clubs?

Solution and analysis

There is no sure answer on this deal, you should consider why West has led a club rather than a red suit.  It is possible that she has both red kings, or maybe has king of one red suit and an unattractive holding like Jxx in the other suit and wishes to make a safe lead.

If you think the latter you need to play towards a red queen and hope that the king is onside.  Diamonds is a better suit to play because you will also make if East holds J10 doubleton.

If you think West has both red kings, win the lead on table, unblock the spades, cross back to hand with the king of clubs, then run all the spades and clubs to reach the following end position.

Then play ace and another of a red suit to endplay West.  Of course, this may not work, or West may discard smoothly down to K, Kxx in which case you might misguess.  In practice, most defenders will show great discomfort on the run of the black suits and discard down to the hoped for end position.
