Today's deal was
played by Tom Slater in a Friday night duplicate at Cheadle Hulme.
After North had shown a balanced 23-24 count, South transferred to hearts, North showed a super fit and South signed off in game. West led the club seven, which was ducked in dummy, East won with the queen and played back a spade to the ace and West returned the club two. Worried about a club ruff Tom won with the ace and played trumps getting the bad news. South now appears to have four losers, two spades a trump and a club. However, Tom ruffed a club with East discarding a diamond. Tom now played three rounds of diamonds and the spade king, followed by the last club from dummy. East discarded a spade and Tom ruffed (en passant) leaving East's trump winner and West's spade winner to take the last trick. Thanks to Tom Slater for reporting this deal |
