A deal from the
Higson Cup Final on Sunday. John Holland opened four hearts on
the East hand, South ventured four spades. Although West was
fairly sure this was not making he didn't double as he didn't want the
opponents to run to five diamonds which may have been cold. North
with
her powerful hand tried for slam, but gave up when she found there was
a key card missing. West, now pleased with his earlier decision,
was happy to double and South went
three off (he could have got out for two off).
In the other room East opened three hearts, South (Michael Newman) overcalled three spades and North (Alan Mould) bid three notrump. On a heart lead Alan set up the diamonds and the contract made easily for a 14 IMP gain. |
