Another deal from the
Hubert Phillips final, this one played by Jackie Pye.
Arriving in five clubs she received a heart lead. The defence cashed two hearts and switched to a spade. Jackie took two top clubs in dummy and discovered the bad trump break. She continued by drawing all the trumps and cashing the heart queen. At this point East wanted to keep three spades and three diamonds, but eight tricks had been played and he was squeezed to give up a diamond or a spade and declarer was home with the aid of the diamond finesse.
