(1) A
balanced raise to three spades or higher
Another
deal from the Swiss Pairs at the Lancashire Congress in
Preston in October.
This
deal demonstrates that it is not always a good idea to have
too much science in the bidding.
When
West bid three diamonds to show the spade raise North was
able to double for the lead.
South
duly led a diamond, there was nothing to the play and
declarer quickly made ten tricks.
At
other tables South normally led a heart, with declarer now
being able to throw his diamond on the hearts making eleven
tricks.
