East led the diamond eight won in dummy and declarer played a small spade, West following smoothly with the five.
If trumps break 3-2 then there are only two tricks to lose, if they break 4-1 then if East has a singleton honour then it is right to play the ace, if East has a small card it is right to play the ten.  Since there are three honours missing and only two small cards the ace is the percentage play.

Those who played the ace won the postmortem, those who played the ten won the matchpoints.
