Another
board from the Manchester Congress Pairs.
After
Diana Ackerman (South) opened two clubs East-West
put up a small barrage at favourable vulnerability,
but Andy Green (North) drove to the grand slam.
Diana
won the spade lead and took two trumps ending in
dummy. She now discarded a diamond on the
spade king and played three rounds of diamonds
ruffing high in the South hand. Now a trump to
dummy and her heart losers went on the established
diamonds. Nicely played for a joint top with
Joy and Irving Blakey who were the only other pair
to bid the grand slam.
