Another deal from the Tollemache qualifier.

You reach four hearts after West has made a weak jump overcall in spades.  How do you play on the lead of the two of clubs?

Solution

Rodney Lighton took a diamond discard on the second high club and then ran some hearts, but Sally Brock sitting West defended accurately keeping four spades and clubs.  Declarer had to lose one heart and three spade tricks eventually for one off.

Barry Myers found a better shot at making the contract by playing the jack of hearts at trick two, this was covered and Barry continued hearts.  East won and played another club.  Barry trumped, drew trumps and played a diamond, resurrecting dummy.  Four hearts can not be made genuinely as East can find the difficult defence of cashing the diamond ace when in with a heart and exiting with a heart, West will then come to two spade tricks.
