East opens a weak two diamonds after two passes and
you venture a take out double in the hope that
partner will bid something vaguely useful. He
responds two hearts, what do you do now?
Less of a
solution, more of a sad guess. You hope partner has
the heart queen and that the spades are running so try
seven spades. Unfortunately he tables one of the
worst hands he has ever held 3, 7653, 9853, 8642.
Spades break 4-1 and the heart queen doesn't drop so you
are two off for a near bottom score. Those South
players bold enough to only bid game scored very well!
