This
deal
is from the last round of the Northern Bridge
League.
With
East/West about to play in two hearts, North made a
protective take out double. South bid two
spades and East-West were happy enough to defend
that.
West
didn't get off to the best of starts with a heart
lead which was won by the jack. Declarer now
played a club to the jack and East played the
nine. This is a well known false card which
gives declarer the option of playing East for 109
doubleton. Declarer now cashed the heart ace
and played a trump ducking when East played the
nine. East returned a heart and declarer now
got the clubs wrong by playing the queen. He
now played another spade from table to the queen,
five and eight. East cashed the ten of clubs
and played a diamond to the ace, another to the jack
left the following end position.
East
now played the diamond king to give the defence the
rest of the tricks for an inglorious three off.
