When West tried to find his partner's minor with a club lead Neil Thomas was not hard pressed to make ten tricks when the clubs broke 2-2.
However making ten tricks on a spade lead is a little more challenging.  How do you play?

Solution


After winning the first spade and setting up the clubs, win the spade return and cash the heart ace to remove East's known singleton heart.
Now lead the diamond jack and take the diamond finesse.  The rest of the clubs follow to leave the position below.

If you are fairly sure that East started with the queen and jack of spades you can exit with a spade and East will be forced to lead away from the diamond king at trick twelve.
