This
deal is from a league match in early December.
West
leads the queen of clubs which you let win, East
encouraging with the eight.
Looking
at just the North South cards, how would you play if
West continues clubs and how would you play on a
diamond switch at trick two.
Scroll
down for Nicholas Greer's analysis.
On
a diamond switch South won in hand and played the
spade ace followed by a spade to the ten. East
won and returned the king of clubs which South won.
Declarer
now cashed the spades with West discarding two
diamonds and a heart. Now declarer can play a
diamond to the ace and lead the last club from dummy
to leave West to lead away from the heart king after
cashing his clubs.
If
West continues clubs then possibly the best chance
is to play the heart queen from hand. If the
defence takes this then there are two entries to
dummy to play for East to have the queen and jack of
spades, if the defence ducks the heart queen, then
declarer plays spades from the top.
