This
deal is from the Chester Congress Pairs.
West
led the ace of spades and switched to the jack of
hearts.
Declarer
won the ace in dummy and then played the diamond
jack to the ace and queen.
Thinking
he was now sure to make the contract declarer drew
the trumps, but the five-one club break thwarted him
and he was one off.
However,
he should have made the contract by playing the
eight of hearts at trick three. There are just
enough entries in dummy to set up the hearts by
ruffing in hand while drawing trumps.
