This
deal is from the Higson Plate Final
Against
three notrump West led the six of hearts to East's
queen and declarer's king.
Declarer
now tried two top clubs, when West discarded a small
diamond he turned his attention to the diamond suit.
The
king of diamonds was ducked, with East playing the
jack.
Assuming
that the carding in hearts and diamonds is genuine,
declarer now has a guaranteed line for the contract.
Declarer
has three spade tricks, one heart, one diamond and
two clubs for a total of seven.
Take
three top spades to remove any spade exits from
West's hand, then play the ten of diamonds
overtaking with the queen. West will have to
give you enough tricks in diamonds or lead away from
the ace of hearts.
