This
sequence from a summer league match tested the East
West bidding boxes green card capacity.
North's
response of two clubs was game forcing, two hearts
showed three card support and a decent hand, two
spades was intended as a control, three diamonds
showed a control in diamonds, three hearts was
waiting, four hearts showed nothing extra.
South now asked for key cards, North showed one key
card, then the queen of trumps and the club king
with his six club bid. South now bid six
diamonds to ask for a third round control in
diamonds and North obliged with a leap to the decent
grand slam. In the other room after West had
made a weak jump overcall of two spades North South
subsided in four hearts.

The
recommended line is to win in hand, cash the ace of
clubs, cross to table with the king of diamonds,
cash the king of clubs throwing a spade. Now
the ace of diamonds followed by a high diamond ruff,
a spade to the ace and another diamond ruffed
high. Return to hand with a spade ruff and
draw trumps. This line will make when diamonds
are now worse than 4-2 and the other suits don't
break terribly.
