This
deal is from a league match. West played in
five diamonds after the above auction. North
led the obvious heart which West won and then played
a club to the ace. Nicholas Greer and Phillip
Taylor, North and South respectively, conspired to
false card well by playing the seven and eight of
clubs. This convinced declarer that the clubs
weren't breaking and he tried a diamond off
dummy. South won the ace and switched to a
spade. West, still convinced by the club
plays, now tried the finesse of the queen and was
one off in a contract which he could have made
twelve tricks with the favourable lie of the cards.
Thanks
to Nicholas Greer for reporting this deal.
