A
deal from the Manchester Green Point Swiss Pairs
earlier this month.
After
West opened one diamond, Rodney Lighton overcalled a
fairly thin two clubs. Alan Mould, South, bid
two spades which was forcing. North with no
clear call tried a raise to three spades.
There was no stopping Alan now, he found that all
the key cards were present and asked for
kings. North showed the heart king. Alan
could count 11 tricks and North must have more than
an ace and a king for his original overcall, so he
bid six notrump. Declarer quickly claimed 13
tricks for a complete top, two other pairs reached
six spades, but no-one else got close to slam.
