A
simple auction to four hearts by East on the queen
of spades lead.
At
first glance the contract seems to depend on finding
the club queen (and hearts breaking 3-2).
Phil
Taylor won the first spade in dummy and led a heart,
North won and switched to a diamond won by East who
played another heart to South who continued with a
second diamond. Phil now eliminated the spades
and diamonds and exited with a heart. When
North won this she only had clubs to play and that
found the queen for Phil.
To
give Phil a guess in clubs South needs to overtake
the first heart and return another, now North can
cash the third heart and exit safely with a diamond
or spade.
