Higson Cup and Plate
Named after Roy Higson, our late and greatly missed EBU Chief Tournament Director, and his wife Mary who added their expertise and humour to the region for many years.
The Roy Higson Cup and Plate finals were held at Altrincham Bridge Club on Sunday 28th April 2019.
On a cold day unsuitable for sitting in the garden but perfect for playing bridge indoors Kath Nelson's
Agamemnon team beat St Titus by 5 VPs in the Cup competition with Grasshoppers 3rd a further 6 VPs adrift.
Monton Misfits celebrated winning Division 5 this year by also winning the Plate competition by 10 VPs from Four
Dummies who have won for the last two years. Petersfield from Division 3 were third 6 VPs behind.
John Hassett topped the X-imps with Bernard Goldenfield (25 boards) and was also 3rd with Jeff Morris
(20 boards) sandwiching John Holland and Rodney Lighton.
Enid Noronha and Ron Lowe were top of the X-imps in the Plate by a huge margin with almost
3 IMPs/board in the 18 boards they played together.
Well done to all who took part and thanks to both Directors, Henry Bissell and Joan Lewis and to everyone else
who helped in some way to ensure that the day ran smoothly.
Looking forward to even more Cup entries next year.
