Green Point Swiss Teams

Manchester's annual event at Altrincham took place on Sunday 26th July at 11.00.  17 teams entered.  The winners were Rodney Lighton, Tom Dessain, Alec Smalley and David Barton just ahead of John Holland, Jackie Pye, Jeff Smaith and John Stell.  The winning team were leading after three matches, but then lost to the runners-up.  After six matches the Holland team had a 10 VP lead, but in the last match a 20-0 victory for the Lighton team coupled with a loss for the Holland team meant that the Lighton team won by just under 4 VPs.

Thanks to Daniel Kelsall for organising, Jonathan Lillycrop for directing, Gordon Bickley for presenting prizes and members of Altrincham Bridge Club for help with setting up and clearing away.  Full results are on the results site.

Northern Bridge League

The first round of the NBL took place on Saturday 11th July online on RealBridge.

In division A Manchester were third of five teams.  The team was Peter Foster/Royce Alexander, Kath Nelson/Rhona Goldenfield, David Barton/Robert Ferrari, Phil Taylor/Dan Kelsall with David and Robert & Phil and Dan doing well on cross imps.

In division B the Manchester team of Eddie Thornton-Chan/Tony Hodgson, Karen Reissmann/Irene Davies, Espen Gisvold/Raymond Semp, Alan Tranter/Andy Burnett did well to win by a good margin ahead of the North-East.  All four pairs did well on cross imps.

In division C Manchester also won, just ahead of Merseyside.  The team was Gordon Bickley/Ann Farquhar, Karen Jones/Ann Thornton, Richard Acaster/Gil Fletcher, Susan Triggs/Graham Winn.  Again all four pairs were plus on cross imps.
